ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A now-former Alamance County detention officer is facing charges for allegedly having sex with an inmate and supplying him with contraband, according to the sheriff’s office.
In September 2024, detention center investigators became aware of the possible presence of contraband and narcotics within the facility and identified two suspects.
On Wednesday, a search warrant was served at the home of one of the suspects, ACSO detention officer Alberta Marie Hamm.
Hamm and the inmate were arrested following the investigation.
Hamm, 40, of Burlington, was charged with the following:
- One count of felony sex act, government institution employee
- One count of felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premise
- One count of felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, distribute Schedule III and
- One count of felony provide contraband to inmate
She was given a $200,000 secured bond.
Richard Montgomery Robertson, 36, of Burlington, has been incarcerated since 2020 on murder charges under a $500,000 secured bond.
He was charged with one count of felony conspiracy to possess a controlled substance on jail premise.
He was given a $50,000 secured bond.
Sheriff Johnson said, “I will not tolerate this type of criminal activity or behavior within the ranks of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office. We will clean our own ‘house’ swiftly and bring charges when necessary.”
This case remains under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
