EDEN,. N.C. (WGHP) — Penny Adams, of Eden, hit a $1.69 million jackpot on Thursday, according to an NC Education Lottery news release.
“I lost my voice from screaming so loud,” she said.
Adams played for 50 cents and won the top-level “Alakazam” jackpot in The Lamp: Dark Arts, which is a digital instant game featuring a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time.
The odds of that win are 1 in 129 million.
“I called my brother to wake him up and tell him,” Adams said. “Then I drove to my sister’s house.”
She claimed her prize on Tuesday at the lottery headquarters. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $1,218,323.
“This feels wonderful,” Adams said when she received her big check.
She plans to use her winnings to buy a new home.
