Dobson Elementary School recently named its Teacher of the Year for the 2021-22 school year, as well as the Teaching Assistant of the Year.
Sarah Atkins, reading specialist, was named as the Teacher of the Year. Atkins has been with Surry County Schools for 15 years and at Dobson Elementary for two years. She is married to Dylan Atkins, and they have two children, Lyla and Fisher.
Candy Day, first grade teaching assistant, was named Teaching Assistant of the Year. She has been with Surry County Schools for 17 years and at Dobson Elementary for the past 16 years. She is married to Ritchie Day, and they have two children, Trent and Brennan Day.
Principal Sharia Templeton surprised each of the winners with the announcement of their selection and a gift basket.
