DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A construction worker was rescued after becoming buried in a trench in Durham Friday afternoon, fire personnel said.
According to the Durham Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 4:25 p.m. to a trench rescue call in the 2000 block of Doc Nichols Road. They found a construction worker with his legs buried in the dirt due to a collapsed wall of a trench.
Thirty-four firefighters responded to the scene and rescued the worker in about 30 minutes. The worker was transported from the scene by Durham EMS. His injuries are unknown as of Saturday morning, according to fire personnel.
The Durham Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Durham County EMS, Durham County Sheriff’s Office, Raleigh Fire Department, and Durham Highway Fire Department.
