PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry took care of business on Friday by defeating Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy 61-15.
The 46-point win is the team’s largest margin of victory since 2018. East (4-0) has won all four of its games this season by at least 17 points.
The Lady Cardinals have won its past 10 games against the Phoenix.
East put points on the board quickly, taking a 15-2 lead by the midpoint of the first quarter. That lead grew to 20-2 before Prep would score again.
Winston-Salem Prep had trouble getting its offense together with East Surry’s sticky hands. The Cardinals finished with 13 steals as a team. Seven of those steals came from senior Dasia Lambert, who also led the team with 15 points.
East Surry scored at will and used the game as a chance to practice passing. Of the 25 total field goals made in the game, the Cards assisted on 19 of them. Kylie Bruner and Rosie Craven each recorded four assists, followed by Brooke Gammons, Cadence Lawson and Bella Hutchens with three each.
Nine different Cardinal players scored in the win, and eight had at least one assist.
Prep on the other hand didn’t record a made field goal in either the second or third quarters. The Phoenix only managed four made free throws in that time.
Gammons knocked down her second 3-pointer of the evening with 6:00 left in the third quarter to activate a running clock.
