Following a Saturday morning cold front, we’re waking up to bitter cold temperatures and frigid “feels likes” to start the second half of the weekend.
In fact, it’s so cold that we’re pretty close to record lows! The coldest March 13 on record in our area happened in 1998.
While the wind isn’t as strong as Saturday, it’s still breezy enough for wind chills to drop into the single digits above and below zero. A wind chill advisory for the New River Valley and Highlands continues until 9 a.m.
After the bone-chilling start, temperatures warm up to levels more typical of February than March by afternoon. We’ll be in the 40s and low 50s for highs.
In addition to the chilly temperatures today, we’ll have mostly sunny skies.
The sunshine continues into Monday, but the temperatures will warm up! We’re back into the 60s for highs across much of the area.
Above-average temperatures are expected through at least Thursday.
We don’t expect any rain in Southwest and Central Virginia until at least Wednesday. Showers are likely to hold off until later in the day.
We could have another shower chance on Saturday, but the models are split on exactly when the rain will start to fall. Check back for updates if you have outdoor plans next weekend.
