60-year-old man killed in Winston-Salem crash

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A 60-year-old man is dead as the result of a crash on Friday morning, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

At around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, police came to the 2000 block of Pope Road after getting a report of a crash.

Investigators say that a 2015 Volkswagen was driving east on Pope Road, crossed the double yellow line for an unknown reason and crashed into a 2010 Mazda that was driving west on Pope Road.

Ronald Keith Atwood, 60, of Winston-Salem, was the driver of the Volkswagen and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police. He would be pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the Mazda was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

There is no further information at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
