1st 90-degree day in Piedmont Triad coming up

(WGHP) — The heat of summer is starting to appear in the Piedmont.

We are about to see our first 90-degree day of 2025. We have also noticed an increase in the humidity. The best way to tell that is by looking at the dew point. If that number reaches 70 or above, the air is very muggy. We are hanging around that value now. The combination of heat and the humid air is enough to kick off a few showers and thunderstorms. We will see some of these this evening and tonight. Lows around 70, the temperature can not drop below the dew point. A few storms could be strong, but we are not expecting an issue with severe weather as we are in a Level 0 threat pattern.

Tomorrow, a few clouds early, then some mid to late morning sun. Temperatures will heat up to near 90 and with the humid air, we should start seeing some isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening. The chance and coverage through the day around 40%.

Wednesday, a little less activity, partly cloudy with a high of 90

Thursday, the chance goes back up to 50%. Temperatures around 90 with about half the area seeing a shower or thunderstorm, mainly late afternoon into the evening. A cold front will slide through Thursday night.

Behind this cold front, the winds will shift and the air will start to dry. Friday through Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs from 88 on Friday to 91 on Saturday and 92 on Sunday. Lows near 70.
