BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A 16-year-old girl died in a crash in North Carolina on Saturday morning, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
At around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, state troopers came to Henry River Road near Rudisill Street in Burke County after getting a report of a fatal crash.
Investigators say that a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 was driving north on Henry River Road, drove off the right side of the road, down an embankment and struck a tree.
The driver, Savannah Marie Green, 16, of Connelly Springs, was critically injured. She was taken to a local hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
There was a passenger in the truck who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say that “excessive speed” was a contributing factor in the crash.
