CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — A 13-year-old girl died after being hit by a trash truck in Cary, police said.
In their press release, officers said they responded to a call of a crash involving a pedestrian around 10 a.m. Friday on High House Road near the intersection of Cornerstone Drive by the Cornerstone shopping center.
According to Cary police, officers found a 13-year-old girl who was struck by a commercial vehicle. She was hit while she was walking in the crosswalk.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where police said she died from her injuries. The Cary Police Department will not release her name due to her age.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, 57-year-old Adrian Theodore Holt of Raleigh, failed to yield to right of way before striking the girl and was arrested at the scene of the collision. He is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to yield, failure to reduce speed, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Court records show Holt received $250,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Wake County Court on Dec. 19.
The vehicle involved was originally identified as a dump truck. Cary police have since identified the vehicle as a trash truck from Wall Recycling, a private contractor serving the Cornerstone Shopping Center.
